Culture & Tourism
The town of Neckargemünd is situated at a distance of 10 km from the city of Heidelberg, upstream in the Neckar valley and in the middle of a vacation area which is part of the Neckar-Odenwald forest national park.

Also dubbed “Heidelberg’s beautiful neighbour”, Neckargemünd was named after the spot where the Elsenz stream flows into the River Neckar. After restructuring, the districts of Dilsberg, Mückenloch and Waldhilsbach, beautifully situated on three mountain ranges, are now part and parcel of the town of Neckargemünd. With its picturesque location, embedded in deciduous and coniferous forest, Neckargemünd is most popular not only as a residence but also as a holiday resort. Being remarkably well equipped with all types of school as well as numerous sports- and recreational facilities, the town also features a lively cultural scene with local clubs contributing to a wide range of different activities.

See the old town centre, steeped in its 1000 year old history. Alleys, corners and numerous splendid half-timbered houses from the middle ages, the historic town wall as well as Reichenstein castle all bear witness to an eventful past. Dilsberg castle, catching anybody’s eye from a distance already, is most famous.
A museum sheltered inside the old town hall depicts the history of Neckar shipping.

Apart from a wide range of cultural activities, the town along with its surrounding area also offers a host of destinations for cyclists and hikers. You will just love boat trips on the River Neckar, giving you appetite to use the town’s hotel- and restaurant facilities. Experience Neckargemünd as a starting point to discover the “Neckartal Odenwald forest” national park, the “Kraichgau” and “Kurpfalz” region, not to mention the “Burgenstrasse” (castle road).
